<div>There are moments in life that divide your world into two parts. Everything before, and everything after. For Halen Morgan and everyone who loves him, that moment came with a diagnosis of Stage II Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma.

<div>Just a few weeks ago, Halen was doing what every teenager should be doing. Playing football, performing with his band, spending time with friends, and enjoying life. What first seemed to be nothing more than a swollen tonsil quickly turned into emergency surgery at UC Davis. After doctors removed the rapidly growing mass and completed additional testing, his family heard the words no parent is ever prepared to hear. “Your son has cancer.”

<div>If you’ve never had the privilege of meeting Halen, it’s hard to put into words the kind of young man he is. Halen is the kid every coach hopes to have on their team, the teammate everyone wants beside them, and the friend who is always there when someone needs him. He’s respectful, humble, compassionate, and fiercely competitive. He works hard without looking for recognition, treats people with kindness simply because that’s who he is, and has the kind of character that leaves a lasting impression on everyone he meets.

<div>Long before this diagnosis, Halen had already proven what he was made of. He’s fought through injuries, surgeries, broken bones, and every obstacle life has placed in front of him. He doesn’t stay down. He gets back up. A few years ago, Halen watched his dad fight cancer and win. Today, his dad gets to remind him every single day that people beat cancer. That’s why so many people have said the exact same thing since hearing this news. Cancer picked the wrong kid.

<div>In the middle of unimaginable fear came a blessing that no one takes for granted. The cancer had not spread to Halen’s brain, spine, or bones. His doctors immediately developed a treatment plan, and he has already begun chemotherapy. The road ahead will not be easy, but there is real hope, and everyone who knows Halen believes this is a battle he can win. The love surrounding him has been overwhelming. His football family has rallied behind him. His band family, friends, classmates, coaches, teachers, neighbors, and even complete strangers have surrounded him with prayers, encouragement, and support.

<div>Watching an entire community wrap its arms around one young man has been a powerful reminder of just how many lives Halen has touched and how deeply he is loved.

<div>While Halen’s only job right now is to fight, heal, and simply be a kid, his family is carrying the emotional weight no parent should ever have to bear while also facing an overwhelming financial burden. Although they have health insurance, much of Halen’s specialized treatment at UC Davis falls outside of their insurance network, leaving them with significant medical expenses during the biggest fight of their lives. Anyone who knows Neal and Tawna knows they have always been the first to help someone else, giving their time, their hearts, and their support without ever expecting anything in return.
