Support For Guitar Dave

Donation protected
Guitar Dave is a kind soul who's down on his luck. Residents and visitors in Encinitas remember buying handmade jewelry from him a few years ago, and then he lost his van and disappeared. Dave returned to Encinitas, clean cut and kind as ever, about six months ago and has been playing guitar for food money at the intersection of Leucadia Blvd and Highway 101 ever since.

I see Dave most mornings when walking my dogs and have noticed him cleaning litter off the streets on multiple occasions. He goes out of his way to undo the carelessness of others and asks nothing in return. Several of my neighbors remember acts of kindness from him; he always gave them more of his handmade jewelry than they paid for, or gave them a flashlight in a time of need.

He is unfailingly polite, generous, and does what he can to keep Leucadia beautiful.

Did I mention Dave is homeless? He is, and this page is set up to help him out. He knows nothing about it yet, but the goal of this fundraising campaign is to collect enough money to give Dave the option of purchasing a dependable vehicle large enough to sleep in.

Should Dave decide he doesn't want the hassle of a vehicle, any funds donated will be deposited in a bank account for his exclusive use.

I've set the goal for this campaign at $10,000--shoot for the stars, right? But honestly, a decent vehicle that isn't going to continually require expensive maintenance costs money. My hope is that we can raise enough funds to buy him a reliable vehicle and have some left over for expected maintenance costs (to be deposited in Dave's account for his exclusive use.).

During some of the conversations I've had with him, Dave mentioned that he used to work as an auto-detailer and would like to eventually start his own detailing business. I mention this to highlight that he's looking for ways, beyond playing guitar on the street, to earn money and a reliable set of wheels will help him move in that direction by allowing him to get, and keep, a paying job.

Time is of the essence. I know he's got a spot to camp for the time being but he may disappear when the rainy season comes. I'd like to wrap this up before November 2020 for that reason.

Dave's down on his luck. I hope you'll consider donating to give him a lift back up.

About me: I'm Dan Sheehan, Encinitas resident since 2005. I served in the Marine Corps for twelve years as a Cobra pilot and have written several books about my experiences in Iraq and the challenges of coming home after war. I pledge that all funds donated will be given directly to Guitar Dave, minus GoFundMe's fees, and that neither I nor my family will benefit in any way from this transaction (with the exception of a warm glow from helping someone in need).

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Dan
