My name is Gayge, and I’m reaching out for support for myself, my partner Meghann, and our three emotional support animals—Russell, Boopy, and Willow. Life has changed dramatically for us over the past year. I’ve always worked hard, juggling two jobs at the beach, handyman work, and driving for Uber, but a series of medical setbacks has left me unable to work until at least 2026. In May, I had a full hysterectomy, followed by major shoulder surgery just weeks later. I’m now in physical therapy and preparing for top surgery in October, with another knee surgery scheduled soon after. As part of my FTM transition and to address gender dysphoria, these procedures are essential for my health and well-being, but they have made it impossible for me to provide financially, and the stress has been overwhelming.
Meghann is doing her best to keep us afloat, but her insurance comes with high co-pays, and she’s had to cancel important appointments. She needs a brain and cervical MRI to investigate the unknown cause of neurological symptoms, but the upfront costs are more than we can manage. We’re behind on rent and facing shut-offs for power and water, with only days left to keep our water on. On top of that, I need special hygiene products to help with medication side effects, and we’re struggling to cover basic household needs and transportation for medical appointments and Meghann’s job.
Our animals are a huge source of comfort. Russell, our 2.5-year-old labradoodle/Australian shepherd mix, used to go everywhere with me but is now stuck at home. Boopy, Meghann’s best friend, recently had a litter of kittens, and Willow, one of her kittens, has become a bright spot for all of us. We want to keep their routines stable and give them the care they deserve. We have already tapped out all financial resources from family, friends, and neighbors, which is why we are asking for help here. Any support will help us cover urgent bills, medical costs, and daily essentials, and give us a chance to breathe and focus on healing.
