My son, 22-year-old Gabe, his 23-year-old fiancé, Ashley, and their two cats, Rolo and Carmello, lost their home on Monday in an apartment fire in Champaign. Gabe and Ashley desperately tried to find their cats but were overwhelmed with smoke. They had to run from the apartment only wearing their pajamas and socks. They had no time to grab their shoes, coats, nor his phone. Minutes later, their apartment erupted in flames. Rolo and Carmello were thankfully rescued by the Champaign Fire Department. The apartment is a total loss. Gabe suffered frost injuries to his feet from standing in the snow and ice in his socks as he desperately waited to hear news about his precious fur babies. We would greatly appreciate any type of assistance as they try to rebuild their young lives.
