On February 16, 2026, our lives changed forever. My beloved cousin, Alfredo "Fredy" Alves, passed away unexpectedly after being the victim of a hit-and-run involving an off-duty officer from the Hanover Police Department. The driver did not stop to render aid and left the scene. Our family is devastated beyond words.
Fredy was an incredible person — kind, hardworking, and full of life. He had a smile that could light up any room and a heart big enough to help anyone in need. He was the kind of man who showed up for his family and friends without hesitation. Above all, Fredy was a loving father to his beautiful 1-year-old son. Being a dad was his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
It is heartbreaking to know that his son will grow up without his father, without his guidance, his laughter, and the unconditional love Fredy gave so freely. No child should have to experience such a loss.
We are asking for support during this incredibly difficult time. Our goal is to establish a trust fund for Fredy’s son to help support his future, something Fredy would have wanted more than anything.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to give, we ask that you please share this page and keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your love, support, and compassion as we honor Fredy’s life and legacy.
With gratitude,
Leila Canuto
