Support for Family Bonding

Hello People Who Love Children and Families,
I am asking you to have a heart for some particular children and a family that I love! Charisse and Brian welcomed baby Everett to their family way ahead of schedule in January 2019. This sweet and beautiful boy joined his brothers and sister and Mom and Dad on his own timeframe.
This created some difficulties. Health wise, he and Mom are coming right along after an emergency C-section and a week at the hospital for Everett. Financially, this timing meant less time to build the financial reserves necessary for Mom to have enough time at home. Many families rely on both parents' income to make ends meet. While Charisse works for two non-profit organizations that serve women and families, she does not receive paid maternity leave. So, I'm asking you to come together as part of a beloved community to help make a more reasonable maternity leave a possibility for these dear friends of mine.
Funds will be used to cover monthly family expenses for up to three months. This is a critical time in the bonding stage of mothers and babies. Being born premature means that weight gain and rigorous nursing are even more critical to Everett's well-being. I remember what it was like being a young couple and young mother working at a job without maternity leave. My husband sold one of his electric guitars to give me one more month at home. When I had to return to work, family brought my baby to me during my 1-2 fifteen minute breaks to nurse. We made it work but it was ridiculously hard. It's been 23 years since that time for me and public policy has still not caught up with what we know is best for families.
However, social media and our ability to organize support for what really matters has become much easier. Please bring your generosity, kindness, and desire to live by these values forward and help with this fundraising effort.
