Support for Dave Maud: A Devoted Dad in Critical Care

Support for our family man Dave Maud

Our beloved brother, David Maud, aged 44, became suddenly and critically ill last week. On Friday night, he was rushed to hospital, where blood cultures confirmed he had contracted leptospirosis—a rare but serious bacterial disease typically found in soil and water. Given his role as a Drainage Technician, it is believed he may have acquired this infection through his work. He has an exceptional work ethic, never having a day off and has had an amazing impact on so many people, training many who would like to work in drainage.

Dave’s condition deteriorated rapidly. By Saturday night, he had been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at York Hospital, suffering from severe sepsis and multiple organ failure, affecting his liver, kidneys, and lungs.

On Sunday night, his situation worsened further. He was placed on 100% oxygen, and the medical team considered putting him on a heart-lung bypass machine (ECMO). Fortunately, they managed to stabilise him using a ventilator and placed him in an induced coma. He is also undergoing dialysis to support his failing organs. The consultant overseeing his care described him as “the sickest person in the region.”

Dave is now in the fight of his life. His recovery will not be quick—it will be a marathon, not a sprint.

What matters most to Dave is his four children:
• Alfie (13)
• Sonny (12)
• Sydney (8)
• Amber (4) – who turns 5 on the 27th of this month.

As he is self employed, Dave’s income is crucial in supporting them. His sudden and prolonged hospitalisation causes financial strain on his loved ones, who are already overwhelmed with worry and grief.

We have created this GoFundMe page to raise funds that will reassure Dave and directly support his children during this incredibly difficult time. We want to ensure he can focus on healing and return home to his family. Anything extra will be given to Dave to help him whilst he is out of work

Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page to help spread the word.

Dave is always the highlight to family events joking, rapping, with his brilliant laugh and smile. Our family are just desperate to hear his voice again.

We are profoundly grateful for your kindness, compassion, and support during this unimaginable time. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time and continue to pray for Dave in his recovery. Thank you
