Support for Brynn after Bone Marrow Transplant
Donation protected
This isn’t easy for me to write, as those of you who know me well can imagine. I’m not someone who likes to ask for help and I take pride in working hard to meet my family’s needs. Alas, I need the assistance of my village in this moment.
My beloved baby girl Brynn was born with Sickle Cell Anemia and required a bone marrow transplant, with me being her donor, at just 18 months of age. We spent the past seven months in the hospital as she prepared for, endured and recovered from the procedure. For the majority of this time, Brynn was unable to move around freely, leave her crib, and be the happy toddler we know and love. I was out of work for months to go through the process with her, which created its own set of stressors in an indescribably intense situation.
Thankfully, we are now 120+ days post procedure and the medical team is finally set to release Brynn from the hospital! While I have done my best to prepare for life after the transplant, there are unforeseen costs that neither insurance nor charitable organizations will be able to cover. We are in need of assistance to ensure Brynn’s transition back home is successful. While healing, it will take several months for her full immune system to develop. Living in the city and having a toddler who is immunocompromised requires precautions at home that are much more than mere cleaning or baby proofing. For example, it is impossible to sanitize surfaces like our upholstered furniture from harmful germs and bacteria that won’t cause more than a cold in the average child. Funds raised here will help replace the existing furniture in our house, and take other environmental precaution to keep this sweet little girl safe.
Brynn is an amazingly beautiful, smart and loving child and the two of us have fought like hell for her life for nearly as long as she has been on this earth. We will forever be grateful to anyone who makes a contribution towards keeping us afloat at this difficult, yet optimistic time. Please share!
Sincerely,
Jamila and Brynn
