Support for Bart’s Medical Care and Family Support

Hi, my name is Cassie. I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but here we are, leaning on community and humility. My husband, Bart, has 17 years of sobriety and spent those years pouring himself into helping others. Many people know him through recovery, church, and friendship as someone who showed up, listened, prayed, encouraged, and walked alongside people in some of their darkest moments. Recovery was not just something he lived, it was something he gave away freely.

We have a daughter, Keely, who is 5 years old and the center of our world. She is autistic (level 1) and has ADHD, and she thrives on consistency, routine, and emotional safety. Right now, my primary role is caring for Bart while also making sure Keely feels secure and supported during a season that is confusing and difficult for her. Because of this, I am unable to work at this time. Despite our need, we have not qualified for meaningful government assistance because Bart’s Social Security income is considered too high on paper, even though it does not cover our actual expenses.

As a result, we are facing financial strain while also preparing for Bart’s final expenses and meeting our basic day to day living needs. This fundraiser is to help cover Bart’s final and funeral related expenses, as well as immediate living needs such as rent, utilities, groceries, gas, and basic household costs while I am unable to work. Our hope is to cover modest final expenses for Bart and a short period of basic living support so I can remain home caring for him and protecting stability for our daughter. Even the most simple and modest arrangements in South Florida cost several thousand dollars, and the added pressure of daily expenses has been overwhelming. So many people have reached out asking how they can help. This is that way. If Bart has ever encouraged you, supported you, prayed with you, or helped you in your recovery journey, please know that your support now is a continuation of the love he has given so freely for so many years. Your kindness helps me care for our daughter and walk through this season with stability, dignity, and peace. If you are able to donate, thank you. If you are not, sharing this page or keeping our family in your prayers means just as much. We are deeply grateful for every act of kindness. With love and gratitude, Cassie
