Hi my name is Tressie Downes the mother of Whitney and grandmother to all 3 babys !!!
Axel Rose Chevelle Rylan Whipple was born May 23rd to Whitney Davison. He is currently 6 days old and is in the NICU. At the moment his stay looks to be a lengthy one. He has Trisomy 21 (which usually causes Down syndrome). He also has an AV heart canal. Meaning the valves inside of his heart are not operating correctly and the septum (or wall) separating the chambers is nonexistent so all blood flow goes in a circle. Making it hard to send blood and oxygen where it needs to go. This also causes labored breathing. He has been on and off of oxygen for the last few days depending on his need for it. He also has an abdominal distention consistent with Hirschsprung’s. His rectum doesn’t fully distend and has an abnormal ratio causing potential leaking of the bowels. Currently he has a large meconium (or poop) plug blocking the way so nothing is leaking yet. He currently has a PICC line entering through his right leg to assist with antibiotics in case of sepsis. He had a biopsy done on the colon/rectum yesterday and depending on the results we’ll get back in a few days, it will determine what kind of surgery he will need to correct the bowels and colon. Surgery is eminent, but depending on the results he will either receive a colostomy bag and a GI tube for feedings or they will need to correct it immediately. They would like to do the colostomy bag first and wait until he is bigger to make the correction but it all depends on the results. All feedings have been stopped until further notice and he’s getting IV fluids. He will also be having heart surgery between 4-6 months old. His heart is well enough now to handle the bowel surgery but will need to be corrected later when he’s a little bigger.
Axel has two other siblings, Kai and Charlie Whipple. They all have a long road ahead of them. Between the stress of child birth, the medical issues, medical expenses, regular bills, gas and everyday life stressors they could use all the support they can get. Whitney is a single mother and is currently unable to work due to just having Axel and her oldest son (Kai) having Autism. Kai’s needs are also many and very expensive.
It’s about a 40 minute drive to the hospital he Is currently in and when he has heart surgery, Whitney will have to travel back and forth between home with her other two children and Charleston regularly to be with Axel which is a little over 3 hours away. We are hoping that if you can donate, even if it’s a little, it will help take some of the financial stress off of her and her family. Thank you all for Prayers and support and God bless
