Arlene Elizabeth Anne Johnson is only 6 months old and a twin, the beloved granddaughter of my coworker and friend. She was recently rushed to the ER after experiencing severe breathing problems. What started as a breathing issue quickly escalated—after several tests, doctors discovered that Arlene had an enlarged heart, an enlarged liver, and COVID. Realizing the severity of her condition, the medical team decided to fly her to Rochester Mayo for the best possible care.

Once they arrived at Mayo, Arlene’s condition worsened dramatically. She stopped breathing and the team performed CPR for 15 minutes to bring her back. While they were able to revive her, this added to her already long list of medical concerns, and now brain damage is also a possibility. Her parents, Trey and Katelynn, are by her side in Rochester, praying for a miracle and holding onto hope in the face of unimaginable challenges.

This tragedy has deeply affected their entire family. While Trey and Katelynn remain at Arlene’s bedside, they are also worried about their three other young children at home: Kade, Arlene’s twin, Marcel, who is just two years old, and Theodore, age six. The family is facing not only emotional heartbreak but also the practical challenges of caring for their other children and managing daily life while being far from home.
