Our family is facing a challenging season, and we’re reaching out for support as we navigate serious medical and daily living needs. My son Adonis, who is 7, suffered a stroke as a toddler and now experiences multiple seizures every day. We travel to UNC in Chapel Hill several times a week, searching for answers through new medications and the possibility of surgery. The doctors have recommended a ketogenic diet for Adonis, which has increased our grocery bills and made meal planning more complex.
Roberta, my aunt, is 57 and was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in July. The cancer has spread to her colon, bladder, and psoas muscles, leading to major surgeries and a need for constant care. She now has a colostomy bag, nephrostomy tubes, and is unable to stand or walk. We make frequent trips to UNC for chemotherapy and specialist appointments, which are both physically and financially demanding. Our family—Adonis, Roberta, Robert, and myself—lives together, and after covering monthly expenses, we often find ourselves short on essentials like cleaning supplies, toiletries, and medical items such as bandages. The cost of maintaining our car, especially urgent repairs like front brakes, is another immediate concern.
Asking for help is not easy for me. I’ve always tried to provide for my family on my own, but I realize now that reaching out is necessary. Any support will go directly toward medical supplies, healthy food for Adonis, travel expenses for treatments, and keeping our home safe and comfortable. Your kindness will help us focus on caring for each other during this difficult time. Thank you for considering a donation or sharing our story.
