Hi, I'm a 46-year-old disabled mom of 3, 2 who live with me. Those 2 special boys are 12 and 8. They are intelligent and handsome. I have a myriad of serious medical issues. I tend to be proud and be the one that offers help by taking homeless people in and just being a shoulder to lean on, but this year has been hard. I'm going through a divorce because my husband cheated multiple times and attacked my 12-year-old son while I was in the hospital learning how to walk again. Starting over is hard. My boys love school just like I did. My 8-year-old goes to Lincoln Eliot here in Newton, and my 12-year-old goes to Day Middle School, also here in Newton.
Did I say this year was rough? It seriously was one thing after another. Having to find new PCAs because the ones I had were off being together and stealing medication from me. I'm getting used to a new visiting nurse after years with just one. But I digress because this is not about me, it's about my 12-year-old. He has been through a lot. We all have. We're working on strengthening our bond as a family of 3 now and trying to find our new "normal." My 12-year-old is in 7th grade and needs a way to get to school faster than he is now. I can't afford a car. The friend he usually gets a ride to school with is out a lot for medical reasons, and that leaves my son walking in the cold, the rain, and snow. With his asthma, that causes a lot of problems. The school is worried about his tardiness and attendance because he has been having a hard time with the route to school and back. He is a good student with A's and B's. He loves science and video games. And really wants to remain nameless. He doesn't want anyone at school to know. Which is why I haven't even given my name. But some of you will know me and know some of my story. I graduated from Newton North in 1997. Go Tigers!
Basically, it boils down to this: I'm trying to get him a reliable, safe electric scooter with all the safety equipment and accessories and weather-appropriate clothing for his riding to school. He is just a good kid who wants to get to school on time every day and go to the store to help get groceries for the house. As a mom who raised my children by myself, it is hard when you aren't the one who can provide everything they need. So if you wouldn't mind helping out, every little bit helps. If you can't donate, then please share. I'm gonna do my best to save the little I can, but things were very hard when the government shut down, and I'm still trying to play catch up.
If you read the ramblings of an anxious and embarrassed mom... Thank you so much. Bless you.
