**UPDATE** We were able to find a used lift seat that has allowed us to cut our goal in half! If you’re on my page, you know who I am. We recently took my mom to the ER for a fall in early July, and we came out with a stage 4 metastatic lung & liver cancer diagnosis. Since she had been cancer free for over 20 years, it was a big shock to our family.
Since 2011, my two, now adult daughters and I, have lived with my parents in the same home. They live in the upstairs area and we live downstairs. My mom also broke her hip in August 2024, and was in the throes of recovering from that, when she fell, which was actually one of many falls recently. Since then, she has been mobilizing with a walker for safety, even in the home. Since she left the hospital this last time, I am now her caregiver three days a week and my dad is her caregiver the other four days a week.
There are 18 steps to get up into my parents living area. I’m very concerned for both of them going up and down the stairs, especially my mom, who always has to have someone in front of her for safety as she walks down the stairs with her cane.
All that being said, my goal is to try to raise funds to get a stair lift for their stairs. This would highly reduce the risk of either of them falling, going up or down the stairs.
