My brother Adrian Zonneveldt and his children, Tangmo, Austin and Cooper, are facing the unimaginable following the sudden loss of their beloved wife and mum, Fon.
On 30 May, just weeks after her 40th birthday, Fon passed away unexpectedly following a brain haemorrhage. In a matter of days, life has changed forever for Adrian, Tangmo, Austin and Cooper.
Like everyone who knew Fon, our family is still trying to come to terms with what has happened. Right now, our focus is on supporting Ade and the kids as they navigate the heartbreak of losing the person who was at the centre of their family.
Fon was born and raised in the small village of Khlong Lan in northern Thailand. Adrian and Fon met while she was working in Pattaya, and together they built a life centred on family and hard work. Following the birth of their youngest son, Cooper, they returned to Cobram around 10 years ago to raise their family and put down roots in the community they called home.
Many people across Cobram will know Fon from her time working at the Sporties and Ambience Cafe where she made lasting friendships and became a familiar face to so many. Whether you knew her well or simply stopped in for a coffee at Ambience, chances are you were greeted with warmth, kindness and that unforgettable smile.
Away from work, Fon's loved spending time with Adrian, Tangmo, Austin and Cooper, especially down by the river creating memories together. She was very proud of her children and devoted herself to helping Coopie navigate the additional challenges that come with his special needs.
The sudden loss of Fon leaves an enormous gap in the lives of those who loved her and in the wider Cobram community that embraced her as one of its own.
We know many people will want to reach out and ask what they can do to help. At the moment, we are trying to give Adrian, Tangmo, Austin and Cooper the space they need to grieve, while also working through funeral arrangements and helping bring the rest of Fon's immediate family from Thailand to be here during this difficult time.
I want to acknowledge the incredible generosity already shown by some quiet angels in our Cobram community. Their significant donation has enabled Fon's parents to travel from Thailand to say goodbye. We are deeply grateful for this kindness and support.
Anyone who knows Adrian knows he is not someone who likes attention or asking for help. However, the reality is that the family is facing significant expenses at an already overwhelming time. This fundraiser has been established to help cover Fon's funeral expenses and the costs associated with bringing her sisters from Thailand to be with their family during this difficult time. In addition to their travel costs, funds raised will help Adrian to support Fon's family while they are here in Australia.
Any remaining funds will help ease some of the immediate financial pressures facing Adrian, Tangmo, Austin and Cooper as they adjust to life without Fon. Hopefully they'll also be able to take the small holiday to Queensland they were planning later this year (finally taking the boys to the theme parks following a cancelled attempt during Covid times).
Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a difference. If you're not in a position to give, sharing this page would mean just as much.
On behalf of Adrian, Tangmo, Austin, Cooper and our entire family, thank you for your kindness, generosity and support. It won't take away the pain of losing Fon, but it will help ease some of the burden as they face the difficult road ahead.
Thank you for helping us honour Fon's memory and support the family she loved so dearly.
