"Supporting Filipino children’s education, well-being and nutrition"
Filipino people experience disadvantages in a number of ways such as poverty, lack of accessibility and affordability to education, poor nutrition, economic inequality, gender violence and gender inequality.
In February 2020, 30 social work students from the University of South Australia will be heading over to the Philippines for nearly a month to complete a study tour. Students will be working hands on with local communities throughout Manila and Cebu.
Students will be working with children and families that have faced many challenges and will be running programs throughout schools as well as shanties to promote education and resilience. While in the Philippines, students will also be cooking in the shanties, running a camp for children and visiting a range of organisations.
What the money will be used for:
- Create food hampers for people living in the shanties that we can give to families we meet
- Hygiene products for children and families
- Art supplies for children
- Music supplies
- Basic school supplies (books, pencils etc)
- Donations to organisations that we believe would benefit the most from our donation
If you would like to donate something such as school supplies (books, pencils, pens), hygiene products (soap, toothbrushes, moisturiser) or sporting equipment (footballs, basketballs, soccer balls etc) or anything else please feel free to contact [email redacted]sa.edu.au or click 'contact' organiser below to arrange if this will be possible!
* If you would like to do something else, please look into sponsoring a child. We will also be looking into sponsoring a child through Buhay International Vision and Empowerment Inc. (B.I.V.E. Inc.). For just $24.00 AUD per month ($245.00 per year), a child can receive education, nurturing and mentoring, health and protection, career guidance etc. To contact B.I.V.E in regards to sponsoring a child send them an email at [email redacted]
