Support Family and Their Caregiving Challenges
Donation protected
My name is Jessica Ferrick. My parents are David and Susan. I have two siblings, Julia and Nick. In 2015, my family received devastating news. My father had been diagnosed with Huntington’s disease.
Huntington’s Disease is a genetic, progressive, degenerative brain disorder. It is a cruel disease that usually starts showing symptoms in mid-adulthood. My family and I have watched my dad lose his motor skills, memory, and cognitive functioning. He has mood swings, trouble eating/swallowing, and struggles to do almost anything for himself.
There is no cure or treatment for HD.
He needs 24-hour care around the clock. Unfortunately, my mother has to take this on while working a full-time job and being a mom to my siblings and I.
Caregiver strain has affected her immensely. My siblings and I have watched my mother struggle day in and day out. The emotional and mental strain is very evident. My siblings and I have decided to take it upon ourselves in attempt to financially support our mother. She is very strong and independent and thinks she has to fight this battle alone.
We are trying to raise money for my mother to put my father into home care and/or find help with a home aid. Nursing homes average $93,000.
All funds would go to medical bills/home care/therapy for my father, David Ferrick.
Anything would help,
thank you so much
