On September 15, 2025, the U.S. military killed Colombian fisherman Alejandro Carranza of Gaira, Colombia, leaving fatherless Alejandro's son and three daughters. Carranza was the sole breadwinner for his children and parents.

The Trump administration alleges, without evidence, that Carranza was running drugs in the small boat the U.S. military bombed and destroyed from the air, killing all aboard.

I am raising funds for the Carranza Medina family. The funds will travel to the family via Pittsburgh Attorney Dan Kovalik, who is representing the Carranza Medina family in a petition to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

One hundred percent of all donations will go directly to the Carranza Medina family - there is no overhead.

A bit about me. I have a B.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies; I have lived in Colombia for a year and half; and I have been to, and written about, the city of Santa Marta, Colombia, which borders Señor Carranza's home of Gaira.

In the 1980s I worked with Central American refugees for Proyecto Libertad, a law firm in Harlingen, Texas; I worked for the New El Salvador Today Foundation in San Francisco; I translated for the Agencia Nueva Nicaragua news service in Managua, Nicaragua; and I was heavily involved in the movement against U.S. intervention in Central America.
