Support Evies Mummy & Daddy on Evie’s Journey
Donation protected
As many of you may already know, Kelsey gave birth to baby Evie at 25 weeks at a tiny 860g (1lb 9oz), very unexpectedly, after two visits to the hospital and ongoing pain, Kelsey was told after examination she was going to have Evie that same day. Evie spent the first 13 days of her life being looked after in NICU at the L&D until she began to show signs of a stomach disease (also known as NEC) which resulted in an urgent transport to Great Ormand Street for potential surgery. Although after further tests and scans this had turned out to not be the case.
We were all expecting a few days of monitoring and they would all be on their way back to the L&D, closer to home. However, since being admitted to GOSH, Evie unfortunately has been battling sepsis, meningitis, chronic lung disease. She has also had numerous scans at the L&D, which had picked up on a small hole (known as a PDA) in her heart. She was given paracetamol to help close this, however with infections, like Evie is facing, comes the risk of it growing bigger rather than shrinking and closing up. There are many things common in premature babies but Evie has had it all thrown at her at once. Despite everything she is going through, she really is trying to prove herself and is managing to continue fighting her way through every day.
Evie has been nil by mouth for well over a month. With small feeds being given to her, she would be sick and not be able to keep anything down. Even with no feeds being given, her belly began to grow bigger. As of recently, after 9 long weeks at GOSH (and nearly being discharged back to Luton) it was discovered that Evie had a stricture in her bowel, which would be the reason she couldn’t feed as the milk had no way out of her body. Because of this Evie has had to have an invasive surgery to cut out part of her bowel. She is now recovering and everyone is patiently waiting for her to be able to feed and progress in her journey to make it home.
Kelsey and Ryan have now, as it stands, been in London for 10 weeks unsure of when they will be able to come back closer to home, relieving them of any financial difficulties. With ryan being out of work for the past 10 weeks, they have been struggling financially. Although they are being provided with accommodation from the hospital, and have had help from friends and family, they are unsure of how long Evie needs to continue to fight her way through and looks as though they can be there a little while longer. Many people have been asking what they can do to help, although Kelsey and Ryan haven’t asked for anything in particular, I have decided to created this page in hope that however small of a donation can be made, we can try to ease some of the burden at such a stressful time for the new family.
