Who I Am

Hi – my name is Brenda Wayland-Schroeder and my friends and I are organizing this fund raiser for a friend and classmate – Eric Green – who was injured at our 40th class reunion. Our class, Chandler High School Class of 1985, has an outstanding track record for alumni participation. We have all remained close and love getting together to celebrate our milestone reunions. Our 40th Reunion was on May 17, 2025 – it was a wonderful and horrifying day.

Eric Green – Our Classmate:

Eric contacted me a few months before our reunion and asked if it would be ok for him to join and help with our class activities. You see, Eric didn’t actually graduate high school with us. He went to school with us until junior high, and then his parents had him transfer to a local private school. Of course, when Eric contacted me, I immediately said “YES!” ONCE A LION, ALWAYS A LION is our alumni motto and a mantra with our class as well. Eric just wanted to see and be with his classmates from his early elementary years. He was there all week helping us build our “Rambo” themed float that went on to win 1st place. He didn’t wait to be asked but just brought whatever we needed and pitched in to do whatever needed to be done. That’s just who he is. We all loved having him join us this year, which is why the tragic end was even more painful.

What Happened:

After the parade as we were taking things off the trailer, Eric was on the float and had sat down on a bucket to rest. It’s not clear what happened next, but it's possible that he lost consciousness or even had a small stroke. Eric fell backward off the trailer and landed on the road. We had to call an ambulance who took him to OU Medical Center where he is fighting for his life. He has a brain injury, broken back and 9 broken ribs. As a result of his fall, Eric suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on May 22nd and is now trying to recover from emergency brain surgery. He is currently still on a vent and has not been as responsive as they had hoped.

Eric and Cyndy need our help:

Our friend has a long road to full recovery, but we are believing for a WHOLE, HEALED Eric and ask for you to PRAY with us for that outcome. Let’s all help him get back to the family he loves – his wife, daughters, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, Eric and his wife, Cyndy truly need your help to meet their regular expenses as well as the extra expenses they are incurring because of his hospitalization. He will not be able to work for a long while, and Cyndy will also be off work as she needs to be by his side to help with his care. I know that we are all asked for money on a somewhat regular basis, but PLEASE consider if you can help with this. This is just a sweet, quiet guy who just wanted to be a part of the group again.
