Support Emily with Postpartum Doula Care

Hi, my name is Sammy Hauschild! If you are reading this you are probably someone that loves Emily as much as I do! As we all know, Emily's baby girl is almost here! In an effort to help Emily and baby girl adjust into this new chapter of their lives, I am asking for your help in raising funds for a postpartum doula service for them. As a first time mother myself, I can confirm that it is truly one of life's most beautiful gifts and mysteries. Becoming a mother is also entering into a battlefield that comes with many sacrifices, adversities, identity shifts, physical & mental suffering. I know God will equip Emily with the grace, fortitude, and strength needed to face this blessed battlefield. Still, there are so many things that no matter how prepared you are, I never would have predicted I would need. I personally hired a doula for the birth of my daughter and wish I would have hired her for postpartum help as well. A postpartum doula will help Emily gain a footing and establish systems that will aid in her confidence throughout this time.

For those who are unfamiliar with what a doula is- doulas are professionally trained and certified to provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during or after baby arrives. Their goal is to help mothers achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. Countless scientific trials examining doula care demonstrate remarkably improved physical and psychological outcomes for postpartum mothers and their baby. The doula service we would hire carries liability insurance, and is required to continuing education annually, staying current with their certifying body's membership requirements, and staying up to date with current trends and safety policies.

Most parents/mothers find that a few daytime shifts a week in addition to some overnight shifts help them feel well-rested and confident. A daytime shift may allow Emily to take a shower, nap, or figure out how to use the baby carrier or breast pump or any of the many unexpected things that come up in these early days of motherhood. The doula can prep a meal for dinner, help pick up the house while mom naps, bathe the baby, and help you set up efficient systems you didn't know you needed! An overnight shift allows mom to get optimal rest while the doula cares for baby overnight. Even an exclusively breastfeeding mother can benefit from overnight support. The doula will bring your baby to you to nurse, then she will take care of burping, changing the diaper, and getting your baby back to sleep so you can too! A doula can also help mothers discern their mental state and well being throughout these delicate times of adjustment.

My goal is to provide Emily with at least 100 hours of postpartum doula care ($35/hr). She can then use these hours as she feels fits best for her and her baby girl in that first month or so, or however she decides to use them! Any help is better than no help at all. Thank you for your love, prayers and support.

-Sammy
