Drs. Emily Berle and Erin Ross, PGY-4 anesthesiology residents at Albany Medical Center, will be traveling to Amatitlán, Guatemala with Medical Outreach of America from March 8–12 to participate in a medical mission providing much-needed anesthesia care to surgical patients.
We will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to support orthopedic and general surgery cases, and potentially dental care, for patients who otherwise have limited access to these services. As anesthesia providers, we play a critical role in ensuring safe and effective surgical care throughout the mission.
In May 2025, we had the opportunity to travel together to Madagascar to provide anesthesia care on a medical mission, an experience that was both professionally and personally transformative. That trip reinforced the profound impact that safe anesthesia and surgical care can have in resource-limited settings and further motivated us to continue this work.
This upcoming mission is especially important because a recent earthquake struck the region this past summer, forcing the September mission to be canceled. As a result, the hospital and surrounding community are now in even greater need of medical support and resources.
To make this mission possible, we are raising approximately $4,000 to cover mission fees, travel expenses, required insurance, and related costs.
Any contribution—large or small—is deeply appreciated and will directly help us provide care to the people of Amatitlán and support a community in need.
Thank you so much for your support.
Emily & Erin
