I am Marc Chappell and my neighbor, Elsie Boudreau, a 91-year-old Saco homeowner, had a public sewer backup into her finished basement and caused more than $28,000 in cleanup costs. She is a widow and lives alone. She is also battling cancer. She contacted the City of Saco, and they denied her claim. The cause of the backup was a towel in the city’s portion of the sewer pipe of another street close to her residence. The city said it was not their problem. City officials denied liability, claiming they had “no prior knowledge of the hazard.”
The link to the news stories are below. I’ve known Mrs. Boudreau for 30 years, and my wife has known her for many more. She is a beautiful soul and loving woman.
She had 8” of gray water and raw sewage in her finished basement with a bedroom and living room. Everything in her finished basement, from carpeting and paneling to furniture and family keepsakes, had to be torn out and thrown away. She is heartbroken and sad. She is very disappointed in the City of Saco in their response and actions.
Although we can’t replace those keepsakes, we can help her restore that basement back to normal. We gotta help her! Please give what you can.
