It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the sudden and tragic loss of Elsa McGrain. A beloved daughter, friend, student, athlete, and sister, Elsa’s bright future was cut short by a hit-and-run driver on November 6, 2025, at just 20 years old.
Elsa was a pre-med student at the University of Kansas, a talented soccer player, and a devoted member of her sorority, Chi Omega, where she served on the executive board.
On the evening of November 6, while out jogging near Lawrence Regional Airport in Kansas, Elsa was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The driver fled the scene, and Elsa’s body was not discovered until early the next morning.
The shock to her family, friends, KU community and beyond is profound.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Elsa’s family now faces not only the deepest grief and the many ripple effects of losing someone so young and full of promise.
We invite you to help carry Elsa's legacy forward. No gift can fill the space she leaves or quiet the sadness her loved ones feel, but together we can extend her spirit of care and kindness into the world.
Let's honor Elsa by standing with her family and continuing the good she started.
Proceeds will support the Elsa McGrain Legacy Fund, dedicated to continuing her impact through acts of care and opportunity in her name.
