On June 10th, 2025, our 19-year-old daughter Elizabeth was on her way to work at a local hotel when she hit an uneven patch in the road while riding her electric scooter. The accident left her with two through-and-through fractures on her right arm, a fracture on her left arm, and a dislocation in her left wrist, forcing her to move back home so we can care for her during a long recovery. Doctors expect she’ll be out of work for at least 12 weeks, and she’s unable to manage daily tasks on her own.
This has been a huge blow for Elizabeth, who is high-functioning autistic and has worked so hard to build her independence. Just a few months ago, she was living in a homeless shelter, but with the support of our family, she found her own apartment, returned to school, and was thriving at her job. She was on track to finish her associate’s degree and had plans to start her bachelor’s in the fall. Now, she’s unable to work, attend classes, or even pursue her passions for art and writing. She’s also separated from her emotional support cat, Gale, since our home doesn’t allow pets.
Our family is doing everything we can, but the financial strain is overwhelming. I’ve had to stop working to care for Elizabeth, and we’re also supporting our 16-year-old son after his recent surgery, as well as our 1-year-old. My husband Brian is a full-time student, so he isn’t able to work. We’re facing mounting expenses: daily living costs, gas for doctor’s appointments, extra food, rent and utilities for both our home and Elizabeth’s apartment, and medications not covered by insurance. I’m also driving across town regularly to care for Gale.
We’re deeply grateful for any support during this difficult time. Your kindness and generosity mean so much to our family as we navigate these challenges and help Elizabeth heal both physically and emotionally.
