My darling Eliana (or EJ, as she’s known to those closest to her)—to say I’m proud of her is the understatement of the century. I’m truly blessed to be the momma of such a kind, determined, and loving woman. As most of you know, she has spent the past two years as a computer science major at University of Oregon. She spent her first year in the dorms and her second year renting an apartment near the campus, all while going to school full time and working full time at Walmart, where she was offered a promotion to manager in the first few months of her employment. She has never asked for financial help and, quite impressively, earned a spot on the Dean’s List for the entire two years she was at U of O. As I’ve shared with most of you, she was accepted to Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana to continue her studies as a computer science major. Due to financial reasons (she does not want to take out loans), she decided to enroll in online classes for a few months to save money while working six, yes six, days a week, here in the Rogue Valley. Her drive and determination truly inspire me. Her goal now is to move to Lafayette—driving her car with all of her belongings across the country on her own—mid-December. She’s currently lining up a place to live and setting goals for herself. She’s never once asked for help in any way, shape, or form, but I am reaching out and starting a GoFundMe open to all of our friends and family to contribute (if your heart calls to do so) towards her moving fund and living expenses. She has no idea that I am starting a GoFundMe, and she would probably be mortified, but I’m hoping to give her a little extra boost and cement her confidence in this giant leap forward in her adult life, especially as she is turning 21 this coming Saturday.
