Dear cherished friends and family,
I'm reaching out to ask you for a heartfelt favor.
On March 6, in the early morning, my dad's wife, Eiko, was sleeping in bed and heard a cracking sound. She woke up to the roof caving in––a waterfall of melted snow, plaster, roofing material collapsed onto her bed. During the event, she sustained a concussion, a compression fracture in her spine, sprained ankle, and emotional trauma. All of the residents in the building have been evacuated and are unable to return until further notice. Her apartment was ground zero of this disaster and she is the only one who sustained injuries.
As many of you know, my beloved father passed in November on Thanksgiving Day, leaving us stunned by his sudden passing and devastated. Now, Eiko has lost everything: her security, her home, her furniture, her clothes, her bedding, and the objects and memories from my father’s life and work.
While I have been able to help her in the immediacy of this crisis, including packing the sentimental objects that can be salvaged into storage , I am worried for her safety and her continued health and wellbeing.
She has an uphill battle- against the landlord, follow up medical care and the cost of displacement and relocation.
I am contacting you today to see if you would be willing to help Eiko in this tumultuous time. We are so grateful for your generosity and care.
All my love,
Emily
