On March 24, 2026, Eddie was having a beautiful day…he went to work, then decided to go to lunch in beautiful DT Carlsbad. He parked his truck normal (no problems) between 2 cars. He went in and had lunch. When he came out, he was walking back to his truck, not realizing in 5 minutes his life would be changed forever! There was a car trying to squeeze in next to him very close to his truck (they had their mirrors tucked in). The passengers, a male and female started yelling and cursing at him, with a continuous barrage of insults and name calling. They pulled out and parked in another spot. Eddie got into his truck and started to leave.
He realized he went the wrong way in the parking lot and needed to drive back by those people. When he did they were still screaming obscenities and were throwing things at his truck. So Eddie decided to get out of his truck and find out what hit him. He didn’t get out angry. He didn’t get out swinging. He just wanted to tell the guy “to calm down, it’s not that serious” and to see what they threw at his truck. If you know Eddie, you know he never raises his voice. He never gets angry, not even on the job site. He’s an extremely calm and chill person all the time. So at this point, Eddie walks up and the guy just to talk to him and the guy punched Eddie in the mouth. Eddie then hit him back. then the guy stabbed Eddie’s tire with a knife... Eddie hit him, then the guy swung the machete at Eddie’s head. Eddie threw his arm up to block it and nearly sliced his hand off. After a call to 911, a bystander that happened to be a Doctor, put a tourniquet on Eddie until the paramedics could arrive.
With several days in the ICU and the hospital, the doctors were able to reattach Eddie’s hand with two severed arteries, three broken bones, ligaments, and tendons sliced in half. He will have a long recovery…but his outlook is positive and we pray for a full recovery! He’ll probably never have full range in his hand ever again. He’s a carpenter by trade. Which means he needs his hands for work. The future is uncertain at this point. We were already going through it by being in the middle of a huge move from where we’ve lived for 15 years. Now the strain is tenfold. Eddie did not have any health insurance because he had only been at his new job for four months and hadn’t been able to sign up for Medi-Cal or get insurance through his job yet. Inevitably, the bills will be unbelievable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! The attacker was arrested and is currently in jail. There was a dash cam that caught the attacker stabbing Eddie’s tire and swinging the machete!! All on camera!
Thank you for all of your love and support.
