Hello,
Although I, Moorland, dislike asking for help, this is the need and plan. This isn’t about me, but about what we can give and create for our community and adjacent communities.
The following are listed in order of priority.
$500 estimate e-bike fix.
We’ve repair costs to fix the e-bike that hauls the speakers on the rides. There’s some much needed maintenance, a broken wheel and an out of true wheel, a new chain and cassette and maintenance at our friends at NomadCycles.
$900 estimate to become a non-profit.
We need to register as a non-profit so we can seek city, state, and federal funding for the work we do. The community is incredibly supportive, but there’s more we can do and more we can empower if we have access to grants. We pay DJ’s, Bands and Artists involved in our rides and scramble for funds to cover these. All artists involved would do so for free, but free doesn’t mean no cost to them. Supporting Artists is intrinsic to NakedHearts:PDX, In 2024 we disbursed $2300 to DJ’s, Bands and Artists who supported the rides. Repairs for Gertrude ran up to $700 due to needing a new chassis/tongue/hitch and 3 sets of tires. There’s also ongoing costs for individual rides, The Nic Cage ride alone cost $50 in materials and many rides have costs associated with them. When hosting 100 rides a year these all add up incredibly quickly and the onus is on myself to ask for donations but I hate doing that. In 2025
becomIng a non-profit would help with the finances as well as open up more possibilities to empower and support others. The bike community has more needs than are being met.
$2800 for accessibility E-Bike trike and Accessibility trailer. Myself, Moorland, had a literal vision of a trailer that can haul riders with injuries and people who are unable to ride due to physical limitations a few years ago and it must happen. There’s a trike and a very solid trailer that have been donated, but the bike needs an e-conversion, brake upgrade and overhaul, and the trailer needs to be built up so it can safely carry a wheel chair. We’re hoping for support from CYC Motors again, and at the moment, the conversion and trailer build cost estimate is about $2900 (The motor and battery alone is $2200)This is very low approximate.
Having someone join us who usually wouldn’t be able is deeply important to me personally but the funds to make it happen have been out of reach. Creating a means for others to be able to ride with us who can’t is immensely important to me. Part of the vision, is a person with a disability on the trailer, MCing a sing a long and just being in the thick of it as we experience joy.
Storage rental for sound bike trailers, $600 for 6 months.
Assuming this would be from May too September, we need to be able to rent a secure storage unit to store several sound trailers to give ride leaders access to a sound system for their rides.
Sound trailer number 3 and 4, $2900 estimate.
We currently have Gertrude JBL710, Rosie JBL 310 that was donated , and a Pyle speaker that’s a little battered. What we’d hope to provide everyone is another JBL710 and JBL310 speaker. Each speaker requires a trailer and battery and inverter meaning the 710 is about $1700 and the 310 about $1200.
These speakers would be to serve the community and loan out for rides.
website development and app for resources, (Corkers, SoundBikes, Mentors), Calendar for events and hosting a marketplace to give a place for artists in the community to vend from.
When we have our own website and app we’d be able to list and host rides but the we’d also be able to provide a forum for people to discuss events, request support and advice. This would compliment the Shift calendar.
The hope is that in 2025 we can start accessing grants and funding so we can support more bike buses for school and work. We hope we can also rent a storage unit and make available sound bike trailers to loan out. We want to start our own calendar listing site/app and independently host rides on our public site and create a network of corkers, safe people, and ride leader coaches to enable and empower others to express themselves.
