My name is Imari and I am the Founder of East Cloud Kungfu.
My birthday is coming up and people have asked me what I want. More than anything is to take care of my school and serve my community.
It has always been my priority to do everything I can to create a space that people love being in, a space where they can be around people they love being around, and where their self-discovery and development are supported in every way possible. I want to offer memorable, fulfilling, and transformative experiences that nourish them whole-heartedly.
End of the month, a group we have been sharing our space with will be moving out. We’ve gone through so many changes over the years, but this departure is not just another change - it is the end of what used to be, and the rebirth of East Cloud as we’ve never seen it before - in the best of ways. With their departure comes an opportunity to reimagine and renew our home — to make it more beautiful, functional, and aligned with the spirit and culture of the East Cloud Community.
Our Biggest Upgrade: A New Training Floor
We’ve found the perfect floor — a competition-grade gymnastics carpet, lightly used at NC State and very similar to professional Wushu competition flooring.
For the first time in East Cloud history, we’ll have a floor truly optimized for our students’ Wushu training, enhancing both safety and performance while honoring the integrity of our arts.
The Vision: A Full Space Renewal - Beyond the Training Floor
Your support will help bring this vision to life through:
- Painting a Bagua circle on the new floor and a mural on the main wall
- Expanding and upgrading the front seating and check-in area, with improved storage for shoes and personal items
- Creating a tea and book nook for rest, reflection, and community connection
- Adding seating and storage to the changing rooms for greater comfort
- Rewrapping the columns for a unified and balanced aesthetic
- Installing automatic lighting in the bathrooms and changing rooms for convenience and sustainability
- Upgrading and optimizing the gym area for strength and conditioning training
- Continuing to enhance the space — building on our new lion head display and beautifully reorganized weapons area
These upgrades will make it a better experience for those already with us, as well as for those who will one day join us.
The Bigger Dream
I have so much vision for this school, with possibilities that continually expand. This project is just one step in a greater journey to grow what East Cloud can offer — not only to our students but to the wider community.
What I want most is to create a space that truly reflects the heart and harmony of our mission — where training, art, and spirit come together to support each person’s journey in life.
To all of our students, teachers, and supporters — my deepest gratitude. Your adaptability and heart have carried us through every transition. I know the wrestling mats were a difficult phase for many, and I am so thankful for your patience and faith.
This next chapter is for you. Together, we can build a home that continues to nurture strength, connection, and transformation for years to come.
