My name is Dylan Dreier, I am 17 years old, and a junior at West Seattle High School. In May, I am planning to visit a small village in northern Guatemala, called Blanca Flora, to help install sealed 2,500-liter water tanks for local families.
These tanks will collect rainwater using roof and gutter structures, and will help increase the water supply, prevent contamination, and improve safety. Millions of Guatemalans face challenges getting safe drinking water. In high-up villages, these difficulties are heightened by long dry seasons and rugged terrain. During these periods, families may travel for up to two hours to collect sufficient water for three to four days.
I will be traveling with a group from Fauntleroy UCC Church and West Seattle Rotary through an organization called Hands for Peace Making. This same group traveled to Blanca Flor in 2024 to install safe stoves in the homes, and the community specifically asked that they return to help with their water needs. I feel honored to be part of a project that supports the community in such a meaningful way.
In addition to airfare ($1450) and meals/incidentals during travel, to participate, each team member is responsible for a $1,500 program fee, which covers:
*Transportation within Guatemala
*Hotel stays in Panajachel and Antigua
*All meals while working in Barillas and the village
*Transportation to and from the project site
In total, I am working to raise $2500 to help make this trip possible.
I’m really excited about this opportunity, and I’d appreciate any support in helping me get there. It means a lot to me to be part of something that will directly help families in Blanca Flor. Any donation amount is helpful, and if you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page and helping me spread the word.
