Are you a neighbor who helps neighbors? Here in DRW, our crew is ready to add another heavy truck to our equipment roster. Will you again answer the call like we all did with the Raccoon Water Tender? We have crew members standing by ready to operate this new addition. Thank you for all the quick support of this idea that we've already received. I think we can agree that having more heavy response equipment in the neighborhood is a smart idea, and this year's stressful fire season just drives that point home.
Heppner Fire District is offering up their trusty 1979 Wildland Brush Truck. Does it belong in a museum? Maybe. Will it find a happy new home and important purpose here in DRW? Certainly! The Heppner Fire District is accepting sealed bids due Sept. 15th. Our crew wants to purchase this 1979 Wildland Brush Truck and we're asking for your support. LET'S GO!!!
This year alone, our crew has performed the following time sensitive tasks:
-May 17th Crater Rd vegetation fire: our members G.E. & son got the initial attack and contained the vegetation fire until official agencies arrived.
-July 22nd Tumalo Circle fire: our member M.S. got the initial attack and contained the lightning strike fire until official agencies arrived.
-July 28th Railroad Fire on Cheyenne Rd: Our member W.C. got the initial attack of the illegal fireworks mortar fire until official agencies arrived.
-Aug 27th Zircon Rd: although slightly outside our zone, our member D.D. got the initial attack and contained a 40x60' vegetation fire and protected an exposed home until official agencies arrived.
We are ready to do more. I will submit the bid of what we've raised during this Go Fund Me period (due Sept 15th) to the Heppner Fire District. You can also contact me directly for additional ways to contribute. I have a DRWFS Venmo and personal checks can be accepted, get in touch with me for how to write out the check. If we win it, great! If we don't win this truck, then all the funds that have been raised will remain in my care, in a high interest yield savings account, until we come across another suitable rig, while continuing to fund raise.
So everyone get ready for a fun naming competition! Names for DRWFS equipment should be based on creatures and critters that call DRW home. When you make a contribution, please add a comment for the name of this new truck, and I'll compile a list for voting. Cheers & THANK YOU! DRW STRONG!
