Support Drew's Recovery from Meningoencephalitis
Donation protected
Drew is my son. He was traveling with a school based band in Europe when he had a seizure and was raced to the nearest hospital. He has been diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis. He is on a 21 day course of medication to help him. His dad and I got on the first available flight to Rozzano Italy, where he is at, to stay with him. I honestly have no idea what’s going to come of his recovery. They say he will recover but the extent of neurological damage is unknown. My new home consists of a hotel room at night and hospital room during the day. It’s scary and heartbreaking to see my young, vibrant, witty son unable to communicate. He has functional mobility but you can tell it’s a struggle for him. Anything helps while I stay for an unknown amount of time waiting to bring my baby boy home.
UPDATE 7/16/24:
Drew will be on a 21 day course of medication to battle the virus he is now fighting. We have just found out his insurance will not cover international medical help. So every penny counts. He’s been in the hospital for 5 days now and will be here for another 21 at least. So thankful to everyone. Family, friends and strangers (friends I just haven’t met yet) for all the support and encouraging words and prayers. His battle has begun and he has an army of amazing people behind him helping.
UPDATE 7/17/24:
The doctors have Drew on two different medications hoping for good results from one of them. His fever was gone for a bit but is climbing again. He is having seconds of clarity here and there but mostly sleeps. The support from home is unmatched and makes my heart happy in such hard times.
