Title: Support Dr. Candice Hale: A Voice for Justice Silenced

Dr. Candice Hale is a Black educator, scholar, and writer from Alabama whose scholarship and teaching center the lived experiences of Black people in the South and across the United States. Her work explores race, gender, trauma, and resistance, grounded in a deep commitment to truth-telling and justice.

On September 11, 2025, Dr. Hale shared a personal reflection on her private Facebook page about Charlie Kirk. It was an honest response to the passing of a prominent YouTube personality and speaker whose legacy, ideologies, and public values stand in direct opposition to everything she represents. Dr. Hale recognizes the harm Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric and actions have caused to marginalized communities and spoke out from a place of conviction and care.

Within days, she was terminated from her position at the University of Alabama and placed on leave at Auburn University. She was denied due process, legal counsel, and the opportunity to defend herself. Her words, rooted in grief and resistance, were used to silence her.

As a result of this retaliation, Dr. Hale is now facing the devastating reality of losing her livelihood, her health insurance, and her ability to maintain stability. She is struggling to cover basic living expenses and mounting medical bills, all while enduring the emotional toll of being publicly vilified and continuing to fight for justice.

Dr. Hale has spent her career mentoring students, writing about the resilience of Black communities, and challenging systems of oppression. She never imagined that this commitment to truth and justice would come at such a personal cost. Yet she continues to believe in the power of community and is asking for public support.
