Help Donte Cook Recover – A Fighter’s Journey
Donte Cook, age 38, is a well-known basketball player, a devoted friend, and a generous soul who would give his last to help someone in need. He is a brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend—a man whose smile, jokes, charisma, and passion for basketball and fashion have left a lasting impact on everyone who knows him.
A proud graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Coney Island, Donte played basketball alongside Sebastian Telfair and was offered scholarships at Delaware State University at just 16. After finishing school, he pursued a career in home improvement, working as a laborer, driver, and all-around team player—always willing to lend a helping hand.
A Life-Changing Tragedy
On June 23, 2024, Donte was critically wounded in a stabbing in Downtown Brooklyn. A confrontation outside a smoke shop on Jay St. and Willoughby St. turned violent, leaving Donte with severe injuries. Witnesses described the horrific scene as he collapsed, bleeding heavily. He was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he underwent multiple life-saving surgeries.
The Road to Recovery
Donte suffered:
A traumatic head injury, causing swelling in the brain
A skull fracture and puncture wound near a major artery
Paralysis on the right side of his body
Loss of speech and mobility
Since the attack, Donte has endured over 8 surgeries and is now in a rehabilitation center, learning to speak, walk, and write again. He has recently regained the ability to eat solid food, a significant milestone in his recovery. Each day, he fights to regain his independence.
