Hello, my name is Donna Solomon and I have been the owner and creative director of Gardenworksforkids for the past 15 years. Recently, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver, stomach, and bone cancer. It is amazing how overnight cancer can totally change the direction and purpose of your life.
It has always been my dream to build a children’s non-profit learning garden, and this wonderful community and the 14 local school districts have made that dream a possibility.
Gardenworksforkids has become a place for families to build memories, children to explore nature, and schools to learn the importance of gardening in the lives of their students. With cancer treatments now starting at the City of Hope, it is my plan to continue programs with staffing while I fight this aggressive cancer. In order for necessary bills to be paid, and our gates to remain open, I am reaching out for financial help from business owners, individuals, and family support while I am in the hands of the doctors who will come up with a treatment plan for me to continue the job I love so much. So I say….
NOT TODAY CANCER!!!
YOU DO NOT DEFINE ME OR TAKE MY PASSION OR PURPOSE FROM ME. BECAUSE OF THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GUERRERO FAMILY AND OTHERS, THIS GARDEN AND PROGRAMMING WILL CONTINUE TO BLESS THE COMMUNITY FOR MANY YEARS TO COME. AS THE GARDEN CONTINUES ITS JOURNEY, MANY PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND CHILDREN WHO COME WILL BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC THAT IT HOLDS!!
