My mom, Carol Wood, passed away on September 4, 2026, after more than ten days in the hospital hooked up to machines that kept her alive but couldn't give her peace.

When she was finally moved to Bruns House in Alamo, CA, everything changed. For the first time in weeks, she was unplugged and free from tubes and monitors. The nurses and staff gently bathed her, applied lotion, and positioned her just so, giving her a kind of comfort our whole family had been aching for her to have. It was the peace she deserved, and Bruns House gave it to her in her final days.

Bruns House is part of Hospice East Bay, and it exists to give people like my mom compassionate, dignified end-of-life care. Every gift, no matter the size, helps them keep doing that for other families facing what we just faced.
