Two Reform Jewish congregations in North Texas - DFW are coming together to welcome and resettle an Afghan family to the area.
We are taking this leap through HIAS, an umbrella resettlement agency.
Since the return to power of the Taliban, the need for resettlement has become dire, as those who served us face danger - and their families, especially women and girls, are at risk.
Imagine what it means, being able to continue your education in a free country, where boys and girls are free to learn.
Our congregations have come together in partnership to form a WELCOME CIRCLE
- A Welcome Circle is a group of 5-10 individuals who provide financial, resettlement, and emotional support to displaced families and individuals in the United States, with training and oversight from HIAS. Group members lead on different tasks throughout the resettlement process.
Our DFW HIAS WELCOME CIRCLE team hopes to assist and serve those who once helped our military in a far away place. Afghan allies risked their lives to save and support our soldiers deployed to Afghanistan for 20 years.
What will donated funds go toward?
Our goal is to resettle a family of 5.
Resettlement costs include housing, transportation, food, essential items like furnishings, clothing, and infrastructure items, health care, and clothing, DFW is a wonderful community but costs here are high.
For three months, we will assist this matched family with immediate needs- finding work, housing, supporting their acclimating through the circle's resettlement tasks. Then, over the next three months, as the family scaffolds with help toward independence and self-sufficiency, we will continue transition support, moving toward integration.
The initial resettlement budget for housing, utilities, food, basic necessities like furniture and equipment - the stuff we have in our lives that we use and count on everyday - is over 22,000 - and we know from experience there is a need for a buffer, for unexpected costs, challenges, and needs, so we will continue with our fundraising efforts as needed.
Thank you for your help as we come together to weave respect and dignity into the lives of these newcomers - and make opportunity and a better future possible for every member of our circle family.
We are thankful for your support and for the opportunity to grow together as welcomers.
Stay tuned! Our matched family is waiting, and we learn about our timeline soon!
Your help will fuel our successful launch, and build momentum for these newcomers who did so much for us.
We will keep you posted here, and THANK YOU.
AS OF 12/30/25, WE HAVE 1200 PLEDGED - and are up 1400 dollars just since posting here!
Please become a supporter with a donation of any size, and return to this site for updates as we journey together.
Every contribution, big or small, makes a real impact. Even just a few dollars can help move the family closer to resettlement and greater hope.
We are sponsored by a nonprofit and your donations are tax deductible.
If you can’t donate right now, sharing this fundraiser is also incredibly helpful.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
It means the world to everyone - our future matched family - and within our two congregations, a circle of friends!
L'Shalom.
