UPDATE Sept. 18: I've made the goal! I have an appointment for the 25th, a week from today (which is not ideal but it was the earliest the vet could fit me in). I'm leaving this GFM up for a day or two longer just in case, because I don't know if there will be any additional medical costs I didn't factor in. Thank you ❤
These two little babies are my new kittens, Dexter and Delia. They're two months old now. They're sweet, playful, curious, adorable: all the things a kitten should be.
They also have fleas.
And a 16-year-old big brother cat who just had an expensive vet checkup earlier this month.
The babies had an initial vet checkup and shots scheduled for October 7, but with the recent discovery of their fleas, they need to come in sooner. Because of their age and size, it's probably not safe to give them a commercial flea remedy yet (I gave them each a bath with Dawn dish soap yesterday (the 16th) and have been combing their fur with a flea comb every time I see them active in the kitchen, their territory since day one and where they've been sequestered to prevent fleas spreading), but I won't be able to know for certain without a vet visit.
I can't move that visit up under my current financial circumstances. Even the October 7 visit would be a hardship considering the costs. My most recent upcoming paycheck will cover rent, bills, litter, food (while being thrifty about it), and nothing else. I have a CareCredit account, but it was used to pay for my older cat's medical emergency last year and I am still paying it off over a year later because of the high interest rates. I'm barely middle-class, I live alone in an expensive city, I'm single, I don't have family money, and I had debts accrue during my years of underemployment prior to my getting this job (poverty casts a very long shadow even when you're finally out of it), so I don't have savings to draw from.
I don't want my sweet babies to spend three whole weeks of their dwindling kitten time locked in the kitchen, unable to snuggle with me or slowly bond with their big brother/grandpa cat, because of a mixture of vermin and lack of funds. Can you help?
