My name is William Medina, and I’ve been a delivery worker for over 10 years. During the pandemic, I began organizing with Los Deliveristas Unidos because we had to defend ourselves in the streets — from traffic, crime, and unsafe working conditions — while fighting for basic rights and the dignity to do the job we love.
Even as I organize, I continue working as a delivery worker. On the evening of Thursday, February 5, 2026, while completing a delivery for Uber Eats, a car entered my lane and hit me without warning. I didn’t see it coming. I suffered broken bones in my left leg and now face months of recovery.
This is what delivery workers face every day in New York City: dangerous streets, no safety net, and no protection when something goes wrong.
As “independent contractors,” companies like Uber Eats take no responsibility for our safety or recovery when we get hurt. That’s why I created this GoFundMe. It’s not easy for me to ask for help, but right now I need community support to survive while I heal.
I’m trying to raise $5,000 to cover basic living expenses and hire some help while I’m unable to work. As a single person, I’ll be relying entirely on community during this time. Any support — big or small — will truly help me get through the next few months.
And I promise you this: once I’m back on my feet, I will keep organizing until this job is safer and no worker has to rely on a GoFundMe just to get the care and dignity we deserve.
Thank you for your love, solidarity, and support.
