Hello! My name is DeeAnna Maxwell, and I’m a nursing student at Chico State University. I’ve been gifted a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to volunteer at a health care clinic in Nigeria, providing medical services to those who have limited access to healthcare and medical resources.

This experience is more than just a trip; for 12 straight days, I will be volunteering at the Kristina Chesterman Health Care Clinic. I will help provide many services, such as wound care, treating life-threatening infections, and potentially participating in life-saving surgeries if the need arises. These are medical services that the men, women, and children I will be serving do not typically have access to. This is a unique and special opportunity to not only put into practice the skills I’ve learned through my education, but also to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

In order to go on the trip, I have to cover the cost of my round-trip airfare, which I unfortunately cannot do alone. While it is uncomfortable for me to ask others for money, I believe the overall impact of this opportunity is worth the discomfort.
