The Woke Mob is rising up!
With an absolutely unhinged dedication to diversity, bodily autonomy, and democracy itself, we are undrainable swamp people who work hard every day to keep our home in Washington D.C. culturally hostile to the fascists in power. And honestly? We deserve to be laughing our asses off while we do it.
Enter the Woke Mob Comedy Festival. A brand-new celebration of jokes, justice, and joyful resistance, brought to you by the Just Kidding Comedy Collective (JKCC).
Just Kidding Comedy Collective (JKCC)
JKCC is the brainchild of Dana Fleitman and Reem Seliem, two DC-area comedians/producers by night and professional do-gooders by day. We use humor as a tool for truth-telling, joy-making, trauma-healing, and pushing back against everything that sucks!
Just Kidding Comedy Collective envisions a world with justice and silliness for all. Rooted in community and driven by a shared commitment to equity, justice, and punchlines that land with purpose, we create space for voices often pushed to the margins of mainstream comedy with a focus on gender diversity. Through classes, shows, and events, we are smart, sharp, and unapologetically funny — and yes, we’re just kidding (but also, you know, not really).
Woke Mob Comedy Festival
The festival runs Thursday, April 9th through Sunday, April 12th, 2026, and it’s a love letter to everything that makes D.C. the best (even while the rest of the country sends us its worst). We’re showcasing the region’s funniest comedians, especially BIPOC, women, LGBTQ+, and gender-diverse performers — plus a few “prodigal” comics who got their start here before heading national!
It’ll be hilarious. It’ll be joyful. And even better? It’s all for a good cause.
Local Joy for Local Orgs
Every show is a fundraiser or resource drive supporting one of our incredible community partners:
- Amica Center for Immigrant Rights
- Bread for the City
- DC Abortion Fund
- DC LGBTQ+ Community Center
We’re showing up for our neighbors with laughter and solidarity, because joy is a form of resistance and comedy is our favorite weapon.
Since launching JKCC last year, almost every show we’ve produced has been a fundraiser. We’ve donated to organizations like Ayuda, Thrive DC, Free DC, and Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network — while also paying comedians (mostly women, queer folks, and people of color), photographers, and other artists a fair wage.
To us, putting on a great show while helping a great cause is the point. There’s not much income in it, and we’re okay with that. But it also means we don’t have a lot left over to invest in the Fest, which is where you (hopefully) come in!
Every show in the Woke Mob Comedy Festival is a fundraiser, and the more we can cover production costs, the more we can give to our nonprofit partners who are doing vital work for our DC neighbors — fighting for immigrant rights, food access, bodily autonomy, and queer liberation!
In short, we’re raising money to:
- Pay comics (radical, we know)
- Rent venues and cover production costs (staging, lighting, fx)
- Provide ASL interpreters
- Spread the word far and wide (print and web promotion)
- Help power up every show so we can give more back (staffing, resources for volunteers)
If you want to fight fascism, support local artists doing it for the right reasons, and help launch the funniest comedy festival of the year — chip in, spread the word, and come through!
*Save the date: April 9–12, 2026*
The woke mob is coming. And we’ve got jokes!
