Under DC's new compassionate release law, many residents are returning home to their families and communities for the first time in decades. Students at Georgetown Law, in both the Criminal Justice Clinic and the Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy Clinic, represent a number of DC residents now seeking compassionate release from prison. So far, several individuals have been granted compassionate release, and clinic students are continuing to work to secure freedom for more clients.
Georgetown Defenders, a student organization at Georgetown Law, is committed to supporting compassionate release recipients in their transition from prison to home. Individuals re-entering society often face a difficult transition, and due to the ongoing pandemic, these challenges are exacerbated. You can support these DC residents returning home by donating what you can. All donations will be used to provide essential services and financial support to clients who are coming home at last. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.
