On October 12, 2025, Daniel was detained by ICE without probable cause and transported to the Aurora ICE detention facility. Daniel has lived in the United States since he was seven years old. He is a tax-paying, Social Security card-holding, beloved member of the Durango community.

Daniel is the second member of his family to be detained by ICE since August 2025. There are multiple impacts from this incident, including lost wages, trauma and fear, and the pain of being separated from family.
