Hello, my name is Maria Nunez. I’m the mother of Dangelo Nunez. My son was misdiagnosed and neglected in Kaiser Hospital. I brought my son to the hospital on 12/19 for his first emergency. He had excruciating pain, and the doctors did an ultrasound and said he was constipated. I left with my son still in horrible pain! I came back the next day, 12/20, to Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara one more time. Four hours and no one helped me. I cried, asking for help; they said no physicians were available. I grabbed my son, who couldn’t bear the pain, came home, and gave him pain medication. I came back on 12/22 to Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City, hoping the treatment would be different. I told them about the pain he had been in, explained he had very high fevers, and that he was not okay. They did an X-ray but said they didn’t want to expose him to radiation and said he was fine since he was hungry and looked healthy. Nurses and doctors were aware his white blood cell count was high, showing signs of infection, yet they still misdiagnosed him as constipated. He had to get an enema and lots of laxatives. On 12/25, his Christmas gift was him on the floor; he couldn’t bear the pain. I came into Kaiser Hospital and explained that I would not be leaving. I explained I did not think it was constipation and requested they do any tests they needed! My son started shivering and in the worst conditions possible. The doctors FINALLY did the proper test. My son had suffered a ruptured appendix and had EXTENSIVE infection! The doctor there explained to me that the worst case, he could’ve died but didn’t!!! The trauma my son had—a week and a half of extensive pain, fever, and trauma—all goes back to not having the proper test since the first visit. I got transferred to the Santa Clara Kaiser Hospital (I explained I was not comfortable since this emergency room was horrible at helping us!). They said to rest assured, they are the one and the best for this. I got transferred in an ambulance; he was brought to a room. A resident doctor came and explained to me what was going to happen. Worried and with my son yelling in pain, I asked why they didn’t operate then and there. They said they were going to drain the next morning!

The next morning comes, no one came to help me. My son was on morphine and still in horrible pain. I started calling for help, called 911, and told them my son was in danger. The hospital was doing nothing to help him. The pain management was poor, and my son was not provided the urgent care he needed. Finally, the surgeon and manager on duty made us a priority. They told us that the draining procedure they were going to do, the unit was not answering. I told them I would not keep my son in that much pain. I said he needs surgery. It was 12:45 pm; he finally got the surgery! After 24 hours of the CT scan and all the horrible discoveries, my son should’ve been treated with better and urgent care.

The doctor came and explained that she was very surprised my son was able to stay so long with the extensive infection all throughout his stomach. They had to have an open surgery on my NINE-year-old son!!!! We had to stay in the hospital for over 2 weeks!!! My son’s birthday was 12/30. I spent Christmas, his birthday, and New Year's at this hospital! I had to be out of work, he had to be out of school sports, our life on hold! I want to make these hospitals responsible! Please, it is 02/02. I brought him back after my son was in pain and started throwing up. He had a bowel obstruction and now had to undergo another surgery!

My son is traumatized, yells he is not safe, and I have nothing I can do! Doctors explain I need to be calm and relax!

My son has a total of 3 small incisions and one large open scar from his ruptured open surgery! I need this to go public! I need justice for my son! The funds raised will go to being able to pay my bills. My boss has been with me through this horrible experience, yet he cannot pay me since I have not been able to be fully back to work. I am currently looking for a lawyer to take my case, and if I need to pay, then this will go towards it! Please, I have reached out to so many lawyers and none can take my case!

I understand my son is not dead, but this cannot be something that gets swept under the rug. My son needs justice, and KAISER NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE! My son used to be active played soccer loves going to school playing, all of this is causing a huge impact in his life.
Please share, donate, or simply help me find a lawyer.

Cuatro horas y nadie me ayudó.
