Support Dagny, a young girl who just lost her mom
Donation protected
On November 20th, sweet 10-year old Dagny unexpectedly lost her mother, Rachael Jewell Schwab.
On October 29th Rachael, Cory and Dagny were planning on flying back to Denver after visiting San Diego to see their nephew's Boot Camp Graduation. Cory and Dagny were flying standby and Rachael was taking a flight 2 hours later. While at a bar near the waterfront, waiting for her flight, Rachael suffered a severe Subarachnoid Hemorrhage i.e a Brain Aneurysm. Unfortunately, this can happen to women 30-60 and Rachael was in great health and had none of the risk factors. She had a vessel burst in the top front of her brain and subsequent internal bleeding, she had a severe seizure and someone quickly called 911.
Cory and Dags were about to board their flight when Cory received a text from Rachael's phone that she was being taken to UC San Diego Medical Center. They rushed to the hospital and after 5 hours of waiting, finally, at 9:30pm Cory received a call from the Neurosurgeon saying she had suffered an aneurysm and subsequent brain bleed. The surgery went as well as it could, and she had a titanium coil placed in the break to stop the bleeding.
Through many ups and downs, Cory didn't leave her side in the ICU for 23 days. Rachael showed some positive signs in the beginning, but after experiencing a series of Vasospasms and other complications, she tragically had further irreparable hemorrhaging and strokes. Cory had to make the unfathomable decision to Life Share and donate her organs and tissue to those in need and take her off life support. With her direct organs she saved 3 lives and up to 50 others with tissue donation
This amazing family has endured the most painful and unimaginable loss. Rachael was a vibrant, active, extremely healthy 46 year old woman. Cory, Dags, and her loving family and friends are devastated and the many that loved and cared for Rachael and the Schwabs are left in shock.
Cory is now figuring out how to navigate their life as a single dad through his own grief. There will be many firsts without Rachael in the coming days, weeks and years ahead. Dagny, as such a young girl is going to have to experience so much without her mother. The family is managing massive medical bills after Rachael's extensive stay in the ICU, Cory's 3 week stay away from home, and so much to come while the family's income is now half of what it was.
Most importantly, this fundraiser is being setup in lieu of flowers and food for the family. Cory would prefer people who want to do something to support, contribute funds to help with Dagny's college fund and get through this initial phase of living without Rachael.
