We are organizing this fundraiser in support of Cristo Rey Catholic School, here in our local community in Cayo, Belize.
Our first and largest goal is to help the school build a much-needed cafeteria and shaded eating area where students can sit, eat, and gather out of the intense Belizean sun.
We are also hoping to help with two additional immediate needs: assistance with the school's electricity bills and the purchase of new graduation gowns for the students.
Funds raised through this campaign will be received by us as the organizers and transferred directly toward the school's needs. Payments will go toward the contractor building the cafeteria and shaded area, the seamstress producing the graduation gowns, and the school's electricity expenses.

WHY THIS MATTERS?
At the moment, the children do not have a proper shaded place to sit and eat outside during the school day, and parents also have very little shade while waiting to pick up their children in the often intense Belizean heat. Something as simple as a shaded area can make a tremendous difference to the daily comfort of both students and families. The school works hard to improve conditions for its students and is constantly fundraising with the help of parents, villagers, and the wider community, but in a small village, raising enough money for larger projects can take a very long time. These are practical, immediate needs that can make everyday school life better for the children of Cristo Rey and provide much-needed relief and comfort for the families who support them.
A school that has already come a long way
In 2024, a new school building was constructed through Belize's Social Investment Fund, greatly improving the learning environment for approximately 200 students.
But there is still much more to do.
A professional design has already been prepared, and we are now raising the funds needed to turn that design into reality as soon as possible.
Future projects include:
- A cafeteria and shaded eating space
- A kindergarten playground
- A basketball court
- Improved parent drop-off and pick-up areas
- Better parking for school staff
The list may be long, but as the Belizean saying goes:
“One one craboo fill basket.”
One little craboo fruit at a time, the basket gets filled.
That is exactly how we are approaching this project — one step at a time.

Our village is full of wonderful people, and these children deserve a comfortable, dignified environment in which to learn, eat, play, and grow.
