Hello everyone. My name is Leah Harris. On April 18, 2025, my husband, Craig Harris, suffered a massive ischemic stroke. 2 days later, he underwent a life-saving hemicraniectomy. This is a surgical procedure where a large flap of the skull is removed, giving space for the brain to bulge and reduce intracranial pressure. He spent 19 days in ICU, 16 days in acute neuro ICU, 14 days at skilled nursing, 21 days in a rehab hospital, and is now housed in a neuro restorative rehabilitation facility until October 3, 2025.
He has weakness on his right side, difficulty following/understanding commands, and has limited speech. However, he is undergoing daily physical, occupational, and speech therapy sessions to continue to build his strength, regain his mobility, and prayerfully get back to what he loves. His music. I’m constantly reminded that stroke victims typically show the greatest signs of improvement during the first 3-4 months after a stroke, but some survivors continue to recover well into the first and second year after their stroke.
As most of you know, Craig is a very strong, independent, and determined man. This is life changing for him and our family. Our greatest desire is to help him reintegrate socially, to connect with others again, and to feel useful, supported, and loved. I am trusting in God, knowing that He is our refuge and provider. But I also believe God touches generous hearts in moments of need.
This is going to be a long road. We are holding on to our hope, while facing moment-to-moment decisions. All of the financial responsibility now falls on me. I’m working full time, taking care of our children, and cheering Craig on and caring for him while he recovers. It can be a lot on one person. It’s a lot to handle on my own.
I still believe that God is going to pull him through this in due time but to be completely transparent, we need help. I’m humbly asking that if you can, please find it in your heart to support our family. No amount is too big or too small. Anything is appreciated.
God bless you all! ~Leah❤️
