On Sunday morning, September 20, Corporal Kevin Buchanan of the Roanoke Police Department was seriously injured in the line of duty while riding his police motorcycle during a pursuit.

Kevin was doing what he has done for more than 11 years: putting on his uniform, answering the call, and doing his job to protect the community.

In a matter of seconds, everything changed.

Cpl. Buchanan suffered multiple broken bones and internal bleeding and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He underwent surgery to address his extensive injuries. Thankfully, the surgery went as expected, but Kevin remains in critical condition and faces an incredibly long and difficult road to recovery.

Behind every badge is a family who waits for their officer to come home.

Right now, Kevin's family is facing the unimaginable. Instead of worrying about work, bills, groceries, or what tomorrow may bring, they should be able to focus on Kevin.

Kevin has spent more than 11 years serving others. He has spent his career answering calls when people needed help, stepping into situations most of us could never imagine, and putting his own safety aside to protect others. Now, it is our turn to show up for him.
