Katie Rose Cottage Hospice provides compassionate end of life care to individuals and families on the Sunshine Coast. Due to significant funding pressures, we urgently need community support to keep nurses in place and ensure care can continue.

Our Story

Katie Rose Cottage Hospice exists because our community believed there should be compassionate, dignified end of life care close to home.

Every day, our nurses and support teams walk alongside individuals and families during one of life’s most difficult journeys, providing comfort, dignity and care, both within the hospice and through in-home nursing support across the region.

We are caring for many families in our community. This work matters deeply, and it relies on community support.

Why We Need Help Now

Katie Rose Cottage Hospice is currently navigating a challenging funding environment.

Over recent months, we have experienced a substantial decline in community donations, placing serious pressure on our ability to sustain operations and retain our nursing workforce.

At the same time:

• Queensland Government funding covers only around one third of nursing costs

• The remaining nursing costs and all operational expenses must be met through:

o community donations

o fundraising activities

o revenue from our op shops and warehouse sales

Despite every effort to manage costs and maintain services, current funding levels are no longer sufficient.

To keep our nurses in place and maintain essential care, we urgently need community support.

Impact on Care

The admission of patients is, and always has been, our highest priority.

However, due to current funding constraints, we have had to make the difficult decision to temporarily suspend patient admissions, to ensure that when care is provided, it can be delivered safely, sustainably and to the standard our community expects.

We will recommence admissions as soon as funding allows.

Why an Ongoing Fundraiser

End of life care does not operate to a fixed timeline.

This GoFundMe has been created as an ongoing fundraiser, allowing our community to:

• support the hospice when they are able

• donate in honour or memory of loved ones

• share our story at any time

• help ensure care remains available into the future
